On Monday we sent this Welcome Back message, but due to a computer glitch, it didn’t get to everyone. Here is an updated version of what went out earlier.

One long weekend and we will be welcoming children back into our classrooms. It’s been a long hot summer and we are sure you are looking forward to having your kids in school as much as we are looking forward to having them. It will be nice to share summer adventures, renew relationships with the returning children and welcome the new children into our Montessori family.

We have been busy at work making the classrooms ready for the kid’s arrival, beginning with the returning children and new kindergarten and elementary kids, on the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 7th. The new preschoolers will start on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week – the 13, 14 & 15th. For the new ones, in the summer mailing packet there was a name tag with your child’s starting date on it.

Earlier this week a mailing went out to our new families with children enrolled at our Harborside campus in Centerport. It included a map of the campus and class assignment. Also this week, we had our PTA organizational meeting on Tuesday. It was good to be back together again – we mapped out a number of activities for the coming year which you will be hearing about in the coming weeks.

Due to a typo on the calendar that was sent with the summer mailing, we’d like to clarify the Parent Orientation Meetings:

The one at Harborside will be held on Tuesday, September 7th at 7:30pm. The one in Dix Hills will be on Tuesday, September 14th at the same time. Both meetings will last about an hour and a half and will include an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher.

A parent orientation for the elementary children will be scheduled in a few weeks.

Due to the fact that Rosh Hashanah is early this year and we are closed on Thursday and Friday of the first week we will not be having any hot lunch that week. Our first edition of the weekly Parent News will be posted online on Monday, September 13th. You will be notified via email when it is posted.

Last minute questions? Give us a call at the school office: 631 754 4109.

We are so looking forward to being all together again soon, soon, soon!

End of the year programs

On the last day of school, Friday, June 18th the early childhood classes will have a program beginning at 11:30AM – each class will be singing a few songs. Dix Hills will be starting their program at 11:15AM so they finish in time to have lunch and get their kindergarteners up to Centerport for their graduation program. Dix Hills Pre-schoolers will be dismissed after the concert, around 11:45pm. Dix Hills kindergarten parents and children are invited to stay for a pre-graduation pizza lunch. Please let Mrs. Meixsell or Mrs. Friedman if you are attending.

In the afternoon the Dix Hills and Harborside kindergarten graduation, elementary graduation and end of the year program will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs church, a block down Prospect Road, from Camp Alvernia. We are having the program in the fellowship hall of the church because by afternoon in the middle of June it can be pretty hot – and they have air-conditioning. There’s also more room for parking. The program will begin at 1:30pm and be over before 3PM.

Long Island Cares Thanks You

Long Island Cares says thank you for all of your donations this year. We have sent approximately 600 lbs. of food to them for needy families on Long Island. Thank you for your generosity.

Dix Hills Crepes Recipe

Here is the crepes recipe from last Monday in class:

2 cups of flour
2 tbsp. of olive oil
3 eggs
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 literof milk
butter
Mix all. Stir well. Cook in a pan

Summer Reading Programs

Remember to keep reading this summer! Barnes and Noble and Borders bookstores are running summer reading programs for your kids this summer. You can get free books just for reading and keeping a log of the titles you have read. Visit the stores for the forms. Also, don’t forget about your local public libraries – they always have great summer reading programs with prizes and crafts.

End of the year progress…

This year we will be writing progress reports for preschoolers and report cards for kindergarten and elementary. These will be mailed out next week. If there are questions or concerns raised please give the school office a call: 631 754-4109, so we can address the issue.

“To everything there is a season…”

It has been a year of wonderful growth and development for all involved in our Montessori family. We are deeply grateful for the superb job the teachers and assistants have done, for the support of so many extraordinary parents, and especially for all the children who bring their love, joy and vitality into the classroom everyday! It’s what keeps us all moving forward together.

With regard to last week’s beach event we must add special thanks to: Barbara Pancari and Carolyn Barnard and all those who donated so much delicious food extras to round out a great pizza lunch. Thanks also to the weatherman who kept that bank of black clouds from advancing any closer to us than Huntington village!

Last week Scholastic was having a warehouse sale at their Deer Park location. Tree DeZazzo arranged to purchase over 150 books. This week all the children enrolled in our school will have the opportunity to choose one of these books as a gift from the school – a special thank you for the success of our Gala Patents Night Out.

For those continuing with us in the Fall, we look forward to renewing our relationships which are constantly evolving as your children grow. To those moving on to other educational settings, we wish you all the best and thank you for your patronage.

To everyone, have a great summer,

Shelly & Cami Thompson
